How We Collect, Use and Share Information
We only collect nonpublic information that you provide voluntarily. You are not obligated to provide any requested information, but it might not be possible to process your request or grant you access to certain features or functions of this Site without it. For instance, it is necessary for you to provide certain nonpublic information in order to create an account on this Site. Other examples are discussed below under Site Functions. If you are ever asked for personal information as part of your visit to this Site and you do not want to provide that information, simply do not proceed with that feature or function.
It may be necessary for you to provide certain information to use some of the functions on this Site. Examples of functions available through ERIE Sites include the Get an Auto Quote function, the File a Claim function, the Pay My Bill function and the Access My Account function (“Site Functions”). Each function provides information regarding whether and what information is necessary to utilize the function. Site Functions may be modified from time to time, and different functions or features may require different information.
Site Usage Details, IP Addresses and Cookies; Online Tracking and Do-Not-Track
As you use and navigate through the Site, we may collect information related to your visits to our Site, including for example, IP address, traffic data, geographic data, referring website data and other communication data. We may also collect individual or aggregate data relating to the resources that you access on our Site, as well as information about your computer and internet connection, including your IP address, operating system and browser type and internet usage data. Some information collected may result in the identification of a particular computer.
We transmit non-personally identifiable and personally identifiable information to third party service providers (e.g. Google may be provided with identifier information associated your Google accounts and/or non-personally identifiable information for cross-device tracking purposes) that collect website statistics. We also transmit non-personally identifiable information to third party service providers (e.g. AddThis) that may use such information during your visits to this and other websites in order to provide advertisements about goods and services likely to be of greater interest to you. To learn more about this behavioral advertising practice, you can visit www.networkadvertising.org.
Information may also be collected automatically through web beacons contained on certain pages of our Site. Web beacons are small electronic files also referred to as clear gifs. pixel tags and single-pixel gifs that permit us, for example, to count users who have visited those pages and for other related website statistics (for example, recording the popularity of certain website content and verifying system and server integrity).
We also utilize cross-device tracking technology that associates your use of our services on one device, such as a smartphone or tablet, with your use of our services on another device, such as a computer. This information is used to create a seamless online experience for you while visiting our Site. Some of our partners may also use cross-device tracking capabilities to combine information we provide them with other information you have previously provided; in such cases these data may be used to advertise goods and services based on your browsing behaviors on other devices.
We do not collect your personally-identifiable information over time and across third-party websites other than as disclosed herein, and we do not permit our third-party service providers to collect information from the Site for other websites or for their own purposes other than as described in this Policy.
Currently, various Internet browsers offer a “do not track” or “DNT” option that uses a DNT header to indicate the DNT preference setting on the browser. We do not currently commit to responding to browsers’ DNT signals with respect to the Site, in part because no common industry standard for DNT has been adopted by industry groups, technology companies, or regulators, including no consistent standard of interpreting user intent. We take privacy and meaningful choice seriously and will continue to monitor pertinent developments in this area
